Dear friends,
There is SO. MUCH. TALK. About AI and other previously far-off technologies that are now our reality. And we have a lot of thoughts: we’ve written recently about the water footprint of generative AI, the copyright implications, and what it all means for our human ability to parse misinformation.
But while we love sharing our thoughts on these crucial matters, we know we don’t have all the answers. That’s why it’s baked into our values to listen as creatively as we speak.
That means pulling seats up to the table for those whose voices haven’t historically been heard. Centering impacted communities in our coverage. Being open, accessible, and willing to learn and be challenged. That’s our path to being bulletproof.
We’ve been thrilled to be part of some incredible conversations lately, talking to not only other journalists, but health practitioners, industry leaders, people who are making choices right now about how we’ll use new tech, with all of its potential and its pitfalls.
Tomorrow, Nabiha kicks off the opening panel of “Data on Purpose 2023: Make Tech Work for Workers,” from the Stanford Social Innovation Review and the Ford Foundation. The two-day conference is virtual and free to attend—so join the conversation. We want to hear what you have to say.
With gratitude,
Nabiha & Sisi
