Hello everyone,
It’s been an amazing couple of weeks here at The Markup! Our newsroom is on fire, with an incredible investigation into LA’s secretive housing selection algorithm (who gets the care they need and who doesn’t is, sadly, unsurprising) dropping last week, a cool new mapping tool that caused a roomful of reporters to burst into applause, thrilling new hires, and a truly surprising Nabiha moment. There is so, so much more to come (we can’t wait to see what happens with Section 230).
While we’re riding that high, we’re thrilled to share with you our newly revamped home page, which truly gets to the heart of who we are and what we do—we challenge technology to serve the public good.
Because it’s not just Big Tech we’re watching. It’s bigger, ubiquitous tech, data gobbled up to feed algorithms that are deployed not only to decide what ads you see, but where you can live, who knows your medical history, if you’re set up for success at school.
Check out the new home page and let us know what you think!
Yours,
Nabiha and Sisi
